About the Opportunity
Help verify that web applications, workflows, and AI-generated outputs behave accurately, consistently, and safely. The internship develops practical capability in test design, defect analysis, AI evaluation, product quality, and evidence-based communication with developers and business users.
What You Will Do
- Translate requirements and acceptance criteria into positive, negative, boundary, and regression test cases
- Test responsive web interfaces, forms, permissions, workflows, notifications, and data behavior
- Record defects with reproducible steps, evidence, severity, expected behavior, and environment details
- Evaluate AI outputs for factual accuracy, relevance, consistency, safety, bias, and unsupported claims
- Retest corrections, maintain traceable test results, and report release-readiness risks
- Work with developers and business users to clarify requirements and improve test coverage
What We Are Looking For
- A patient investigator who notices inconsistencies and reproduces problems methodically
- A quality-minded thinker who distinguishes evidence from opinion and can explain impact clearly
- A responsible owner who retests fixes, maintains records, and does not mark work complete prematurely
- A constructive team member who communicates defects without blame and adapts quickly to feedback
Essential Requirements
- Current study or recent qualification in software engineering, computer science, information systems, data, or a related field
- Demonstrable understanding of software testing fundamentals, defect lifecycle, and expected-versus-actual behavior
- Ability to inspect browser-based applications and document evidence with precision
- Basic familiarity with APIs, databases, or structured data and a willingness to learn technical tools
- Strong written English, logical reasoning, professional curiosity, and disciplined follow-through
- A testing project, portfolio, coursework example, or documented product review demonstrating practical ability
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Jira, GitHub Issues, Azure DevOps, Postman, browser developer tools, SQL, or API testing
- Introductory experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or another test-automation framework
- Experience evaluating large language model (LLM) outputs, prompts, retrieval results, or structured AI test sets
- Basic Python or JavaScript capability for test data preparation or automation
How We Evaluate Candidates
Cygnus uses a structured, competency-based selection process. We consider qualifications and relevant experience alongside demonstrated technical capability, analytical judgment, emotional intelligence, ownership, teamwork, learning agility, communication, and performance in a role-relevant assessment.
- Review of relevant projects and the candidate’s personal contribution
- A practical exercise to identify, prioritize, and document defects in a controlled sample application
- A short AI-output evaluation exercise requiring evidence-based conclusions
- A structured interview assessing logic, quality ownership, communication, teamwork, and learning agility
Early-career opportunities may include a defined internship or fixed-term assignment lasting 8 to 12 weeks, subject to applicable law and written terms. Successful participants may be considered for future assignments or employment; participation does not guarantee continued engagement.
Employment or Project Information
Engagement details depend on confirmed business requirements, applicable law, work authorization, customer requirements, and final written terms. Some roles supporting government contracts may be contingent upon contract award or customer approval.
Evidence to Include
- A sanitized sample test case, defect report, automation script, or product quality review
- A portfolio, repository, or project explanation showing how quality was assessed
- A clear account of tools personally used rather than tools merely observed
- No confidential code, customer information, or restricted data should be submitted
Application Information
Submit accurate information and a current CV. Provide only evidence that you are authorized to share. Do not include classified, export-controlled, procurement-sensitive, customer-confidential, medical, banking, identity-document, or other sensitive information that has not been requested.
